Ready to stop drowning financially?

Are you drowning financially?

You might think that having a lot of debt is the only reason you would answer “Yes” to this question.  Although debt is a big reason that causes people to feel like they are drowning, it’s not the only reason.  Here are 4 things that may be causing you to feel this way…

  1. You have little or no money in savings
  2. You have no plan in place to get your head above water
  3. You find yourself living paycheck to paycheck
  4. You struggle to pay even the minimum payments on your debt(s) each month

The good news is that all of these areas can be changed with some time, commitment and help.  It won’t be quick or easy but things can change for the better.  You will feel exhausted and ready to quit at times.  If you hang on and keep moving forward, you will move from feeling hopeless to hopeful.

When my wife and got married in 2003, I brought $40,000 of debt into our marriage.  We started budgeting, saving and working extra jobs.  In less than 2 years, we paid it all off and haven’t looked back.  Getting on a plan changed our lives!  Now we just have a mortgage and plan to pay it off in the next 4-5 years.

Here is one thing you can do today to start getting your head above water.

Start (and grow) an Emergency Fund.  If you have money in savings, you will feel much better.  Saving $500-$1000 can change your whole outlook on life.  Here are a few ideas on how to get some extra cash…
– Start by selling some things that you own (yard sale, Ebay, Craigslist, etc)
– See if you can work some overtime
– Take on a part-time job
– Babysit
– Become a tutor
